Privacy Policy
Last updated: [DATE — set when you publish]
Velo is a private, invite-only professional network for builders and founders, operated from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the control you have over it. We've written it in plain language, because you deserve to actually understand it.
Who we are
Velo is operated by its founding team. If you have any question about your data or this policy, contact us at [privacy@velo.mn].
What we collect
We only collect what the network needs to work:
- Account information — your name and email address.
- Profile information — what you're building, your field, your skills, what you're looking for, what you offer, and your location (city and country).
- Messages — the messages you send to other members through Velo.
- Introductions — records of the weekly introductions we make for you, and whether you acted on them.
- Usage information — basic technical data needed to run and secure the service (for example, when you sign in).
- Workspace content (as this feature rolls out) — the tasks, goals, notes, and files you create in a team workspace.
We do not ask for more than we need, and we don't collect sensitive categories of data.
Why we collect it
We use your information for one purpose: to run the network. Specifically, to:
- Curate your weekly introductions to other members.
- Show your profile to members you're introduced to or who find you in the directory.
- Let you message other members.
- Operate, secure, and improve the service.
We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising. We do not let advertisers pay to reach you. Our business is membership, not your attention or your data.
The AI Mentor
Velo includes an AI Mentor. When you use it, your messages to the Mentor are sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) to generate a response. We share only what's needed to answer you. We don't use your Mentor conversations to train external AI models, and we don't sell them. If you'd rather not have a conversation processed this way, simply don't use the Mentor — the rest of Velo works without it.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of trusted service providers to run Velo. They process data only on our behalf, to provide their service:
- Supabase — secure database and file storage.
- Loops — sending you emails (like your acceptance and weekly introductions).
- OpenAI — powering the AI Mentor (only when you use it).
- Vercel — hosting the application.
- QPay / Khan Bank (as payments roll out) — processing membership payments.
We don't share your personal information with anyone else, and we never sell it.
Your rights and control
Velo is built so you stay in control of your data:
- Access — you can see the information on your profile at any time, and request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correction — you can edit your profile and information whenever you want.
- Deletion — you can delete your account. When you do, we remove or anonymize your personal data. Some records may be briefly retained where we're required to, then deleted.
- Control what's shared — you choose what goes on your profile, and you can block another member so they can't contact you or see you.
To exercise any of these, use the controls in Settings, or contact us at [privacy@velo.mn].
How we protect your data
We use encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and secure infrastructure to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we take protecting your data seriously and design for it from the start.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your personal data. We keep only what we're legally required to, for only as long as required.
Where we operate
Velo is operated from Mongolia. Our service providers may process data in other countries. Wherever your data goes, this policy applies to how we handle it.
Children
Velo is for professionals and is not intended for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect data from minors.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for meaningful changes, let members know. Continuing to use Velo after a change means you accept the updated policy.
